Now that the final episode of Brooklyn 99 has aired, here’s what each of the main cast members is up to next in terms of shows or movies. The comedy series, created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur of Parks and Recreation, premiered in 2013 and aired on FOX for the first five seasons. Following FOX’s cancellation, NBC agreed to renew the Emmy-winning comedy. On NBC, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was renewed for three more seasons, but the show has now ended.
The show’s incredibly funny cast is easily attributed to Brooklyn Nine-growing Nine’s popularity. Andy Samberg accept the lead role of Jake Peralta after leaving Saturday Night Live, and the series further demonstrated his talent as a performer. Andre Baugher’s presence is credited with propelling Brooklyn Nine-Nine to the next level: his performance as Raymond Holt earned him four Emmy nominations. Before she left the show, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Trugilo, and Chelsea Peretti all had breakout roles. As a result of the show’s success, Kyra Sedgwick, Jason Mantzoukas, Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Eva Longoria, Fred Armisen, and others have appeared as guest stars.
The eighth and final season of Brooklyn 99 is now complete, which means that the show’s talented cast will no longer be seen in new episodes. While the series is highly rewatchable, fans can still catch up with their favourite actors in new projects. The finale of Brooklyn Nine-Nine allows all of the cast members to pursue other projects without having to work around a full-time series production schedule. So, what are the various projects that the show’s multiple stars are working on? Here’s what each member of the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is up to next.
Andy Samberg is working on several upcoming projects now that his role as detective Jake Peralta on Brooklyn Nine-Nine is over. The next time viewers see Samberg will be as the host of Baking It, a baking competition series with Maya Rudolph. A release date for the Peacock game cooking show has yet to be determined. In Disney’s live-action/CGI hybrid Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers film, Samberg will play Dale. He’ll also provide the voice of Captain in 2K’s video game Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, due out in 2022.
Following Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Stephanie Beatriz has a packed schedule. Her first role after Rosa Diaz will be as the lead in Disney’s upcoming animated film Encanto in 2021. Mirabel Madrigal, played by Beatriz, is the lone member of a magical family who was born without any special abilities. She also plays Chimi in Netflix’s animated series Maya and the Three, which premieres in 2021. Beatriz will also play Batwoman in the upcoming anime film Catwoman: Hunted, which is set to hit theatres in 2022. As part of Trans Los Angeles, viewers will be able to see her onscreen once more.
Terry Crews’ upcoming projects are currently limited following his role as Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. His only confirmed role is in Paramount’s 2022 animated film Rumble, in which he plays Tentacular, a monster. Crews has a history of appearing in minor roles in a variety of other projects, so he could be planning some surprise appearances. However, due to a disagreement with the film’s producer, crews will not be appearing in The Expendables 4.
Melissa Fumero’s time on Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Amy Santiago is also over. She has only one confirmed upcoming film or television appearance. Fumero will play Nina in the upcoming comedy Bar Fight, in which she will play the lead role. Nina and her boyfriend are breaking up, and they must decide who gets their bar as part of their divorce. Jim Mahoney, the author of Klaus, makes his directorial debut with Bar Fight. If Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. returns to Hulu for a second season, Fumero could reprise her role as MODOK’s daughter Melissa Tarleton.
Joe Lo Truglio
For his portrayal of Charles Boyle, Joe Lo Truglio became a fan favourite on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. However, after the comedy series, he has no confirmed projects. Truglio has previously appeared in a number of television shows and films. American Dad and Bob’s Burgers, for example, could always bring him back to play new characters. Truglio may be able to book more roles in the future now that he isn’t preoccupied with Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Andre Braugher’s upcoming projects are relatively light after eight seasons as Captain Raymond Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Maria Schrader’s film She Said is his only confirmed future role. Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan star as New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, who investigated the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment storey that sparked the #MeToo movement.
Joel McKinnon Miller
Joel McKinnon Miller, remember for his role as Scully on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has a few projects in the works. He’ll star in the upcoming short film Snow Globe & The Cat, directed by Rick Page of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Miller will also appear in the upcoming HBO Max crime drama The Staircase. Toni Collette and Colin Firth star in the remake of the 2004 French series of the same name.
Dirk Blocker has been playing Hitchock on Brooklyn Nine-Nine for several years. He only appeared in season 8 via Zoom/FaceTime. Blocker has no other projects lined up after his time on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In the start of his career, he appeared in horror films such as Poltergeist and Prince of Darkness.
Marc Evan Jackson
Marc Evan Jackson didn’t have a regular role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but his portrayal of Kevin Cozner was crucial. Jackson played Holt’s husband in 18 episodes, though he didn’t appear in the two-part series finale. His only confirmed upcoming role is in Eko’s digital series Scroll Wheel of Time. He’ll also most likely appear as Mary Anne’s father in season 2 of The Baby-Sitters Club on Netflix.
