Keep scrolling if you don’t want to ruin Friends for yourself. But read this article first because it will literally blow your mind. I’m shocked that I never noticed Jennifer Aniston’s major vocal habit on the classic show, but also annoyed that I now can not unhear it thanks to a TikTok user.
It all started when someone on TikTok asked for people to stitch their videos together with “a trope in media that once seen, you can’t unsee it.” That’s when @cts.trphe came to the rescue. They clarified by saying that while their example “isn’t technically a trope,” it would “ruin” the viewer’s life. They then advised Friends fans to keep watching, but I persisted because I’m brave.
“Jennifer Aniston has this vocal tic that at the start of every single sentence she starts on any show,” they said. “It’s very specific, and once you notice it, it’s very difficult to unsee.”
After that, you see a montage of Jennifer clearing her throat in a variety of scenes. I recognised the sound right away as someone who has seen Friends multiple times. But I don’t think I ever realised how much she makes it.
The video’s comments section is crazy. Others are viewers who claimed to have noticed it on their own before. One commenter said, “She does this so much.” “When acting, a lot of Sighs, grunts, and other such expressions are common.”
Others, on the other hand, said they saw an episode of the show where she didn’t do it even once. Some speculated that she would do it at the start of a joke to emphasise her point. And it isn’t quite as extreme as the TikToker portrays. I now have a new reason to watch Friends again.
