Yesterday, January 18, 2022, the first two episodes of a ten-episode season of the new spinoff of the classic sitcom premiered. The main characters are still being introduced, so it’s still early on. As a result, it hasn’t had the chance to include the celebrity cameos that made How I Met Your Mother so popular. Which featured Katy Perry, Enrique Iglesias, Joe Manganiello, and a slew of other stars. Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester made a cameo appearance, but she will most likely be a recurring character rather than a cameo as the season progresses. Isaac Aptaker, co-showrunner of HIMYF, has expressed interest in Britney Spears reprising her How I Met Your Mother role.
Britney Spears made a cameo appearance in How I Met Your Mother. In season 3’s episodes 13, “Ten Sessions,” and 17, “Everything Must Go,” Spears played Abby. Ted has been seeing Abby, a dermatologist’s receptionist, on a regular basis. And it’s clear that she’s been staring at him and trying desperately to get his attention. To make Ted jealous, she eventually joins forces with Barney and pretends to engage him.
During our one-on-one conversation with Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker. Screen Rant asked them which celebrity cameos from the original series they’d like to see in their new show.
“Let’s call Britney back,” Aptaker said, inviting Spears to “come on by.” He didn’t go any further with the question, most likely to avoid spoiling some of the upcoming episodes’ cameos.
Britney Spears’ conservatorship has ended, and it’s unclear what decisions she’ll make now. Abby will not appear in How I Met Your Father season 1 if he’s just now asking Britney to call them. If she wants to resume her acting career, a cameo on HIMYF would be a great way to start.
It’s unclear how Britney Spears’ character would fit into How I Met Your Father’s plot. However, the show has already found a natural way to include specific callback references. Such as Marshall and Lily’s New York apartment location. If Spears or any other previous HIMYM cameos are cast, hopefully. They’ll figure out how to appeal to old fans while not detracting from the new characters.
