How I Met Your Mother: Where is the Cast Now?

The transition to the big screen

All the actors from the show have dabbled in the world of film; for example, Cobie Smulders took on the role of Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since the series ended, others, such as Neil Patrick Harris, have hosted several award shows while appearing in various productions.

1 Josh Radnor

Actor Josh Radnor took advantage of the demand before the finale of ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ In 2010, he tried his hand as a screenwriter and director for the independent film ‘Happy thank you more please,’ where he also starred. He reprised those three roles three years later in the ‘Liberal Arts.’ Since leaving the role of Ted Moby, Rad nor has continued to work in the film industry, appearing in films such as ‘The Seeker,’ as well as returning to television with the series ‘Mercy Street.’

2 Cristin Milioti

Cristin Milioti was the final addition to the ‘How I Met Your Mother’ cast, and despite a few minor roles in productions, she was relatively unknown to the public. However, thanks to the E4 comedy, she realized her potential, and the offers began to pour in. She was cast in the romantic comedy ‘A to Z,’ which only lasted one season, a few months after waving goodbye to her character Tracy. Milioti also appeared in the 2016 film ‘It Had to Be You’ and co-starred in the series ‘Fargo.’ In addition, she was a member of the cast of ‘The Mindy Project,’ and she most recently appeared in the film ‘Breakable You.’

3 Jason Segel

One of the actors who took advantage of his appearance before it ended was Jason Segel. Siegel split his time between the show and films like ‘The Muppets,’ ‘This is 40,’ and ‘The Five-Year Engagement’ in the series’ final years. Since then, the actor has been less active, with appearances in the 2016 film ‘The End of the Tour’ and the Netflix series ‘The Discovery.’

4 Alyson Hannigan

Since the end of ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ we haven’t seen much of Alyson Hannigan. She appears to be taking things easy. She announced her involvement in the reboot of ‘The First Wive’s Club’ and the film ‘Do You Take This Man’ in 2016.

5 Neil Patrick Harris

Following his role as Barney, Neil Patrick Harris appears to have eased off the gas a little, as we haven’t seen him in as many productions as we had hoped. Despite this, he seems to enjoy spending time with his husband, David Burka, and their family. In the fourth season of ‘American Horror Story,’ the actor appeared in two episodes. We’ve all seen him in the Netflix series ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events,’ of course. In 2015, he had an eight-times-aired late-night show called “Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris.” He will star in the film ‘Downsizing’ in 2017.

6 Cobie Smulders

Cobie Smulders hasn’t taken her foot off the gas since the end of ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ In films like ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ she waved goodbye to Robin and replaced her with the Marvel character Maria Hill. In addition, the Canadian actress appeared in ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’ alongside Tom Cruise and in ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ alongside Neil Patrick Harris, her co-star from ‘How I Met Your Mother.’

7 David Henrie

David Henrie had a minor role in the E4 series, but we saw him develop over time. His performance in ‘Wizards of Waverley Place’ made him famous. Henrie also appeared in episodes of ‘Arrested Development’ and ‘Mind Games’ while on ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ In 2015, he leaped into the world of film, and he’s been busy in recent years with roles in films like ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2’ and ‘Little Boy.’

8 Lyndsy Fonseca

Since the finale of How I Met Your Mother, Lyndsy Fonseca has appeared in several new and very different projects. After the show ended, one of her first roles was in the film ‘The Escort,’ about a sex addict journalist. Fonseca has also appeared in several television shows, including ‘Pitch,’ ‘Agent Carter,’ and ‘Grandfathered.’ In 2017, she can be seen in films like “The Haunted” and “Curvature.”
