Wu Assassins Is Netflix’s Best Daredevil Replacement

The 2022 action thriller Fistful of Vengeance is a sequel to the 2019 streaming series Wu Assassins, making the fledgling franchise Netflix’s best replacement for Marvel’s Daredevil. Wu Assassins established a new fantasy universe, and its franchise-building and fine-tuned martial arts action received widespread acclaim upon its initial release. Despite its shorter 95-minute running time, Fistful of Vengeance maintains both elements while also introducing new ones.

Wu Assassins season 1 follows San Francisco chef Kai Jin (Iko Uwais) as he discovers he is the new embodiment of an ancient, supernatural warrior known as the titular Wu Assassin over the course of ten episodes. Many of the key elements that both Wu Assassins entries excel at were also strong points in Netflix’s celebrated Marvel series Daredevil.

Daredevil, which premiered on Netflix in 2015, centred on Matt Murdock, a blind New York City attorney (Charlie Cox). Daredevil, along with the other Marvel-Netflix shows, ended after three seasons and a crossover mini-series with other Marvel heroes in The Defenders, due to the launch of Disney+. Matt Murdock would return to the public eye with a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and he will almost certainly appear in future adventures.

Meanwhile, Fistful of Vengeance draws attention to some unexpected parallels between the two.

Daredevil and the Wu Assassins franchises are both geared toward martial arts. With each delivering some of the best action scenes available on streaming. Both use deeply rooted historical and metaphysical lore to bring their action to life. Matt Murdock, the protagonist of Daredevil, would face off against the ninja cult known as The Hand. In his quest for immortality through the mysterious Black Sky. Fistful of Vengeance also enlists the Wu Assassins in Daredevil’s most famous gambit.

Daredevil’s popularity stemmed in part from its famous one-shot fight sequences. Which appeared in each season and were longer and more elaborate than the previous one. Brings Wu Assassins to the one-shot martial arts fight scene in a big way. Meanwhile, its other similarities to Daredevil demonstrate the series’s potential to take over the Netflix throne that Daredevil once held.

With the Marvel-Netflix era over, shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones are on their way to Disney-owned properties. The streaming giant will surely miss The Man Without Fear’s popularity. Fortunately, Wu Assassins and Fistful of Vengeance demonstrate that. Despite the end of Daredevil as we know it. An action-packed martial arts series with expansive lore and one-off fight scenes is something Netflix will not be without.
