Where is the cast of How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) now?

What was undoubtedly the 2000’s era of Friends, the show hosted a strong ensemble cast of hilarious characters with great chemistry that had fans rooting for Ted (Josh Radnor) to get his happily ever after and finally reveal how he met this children’s mother.

Christin Milioti – Tracy McConnell (The Mother)

Introduced in the final season of the show, Milioti’s addition to the cast answered a question that fans had been wondering since the pilot episode: Who is the mother?

Milioti went on to portray another famous wife, in that of Teresa Petrillo, the first wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort in Wolf of Wall Street.

Since then, she has made the move to streaming services, appearing on Fargo, Black Mirror and Palm Springs on Hulu, last year.

Alyson Hannigan – Lily Aldrin

Alyson Hannigan had already established herself by the time she was offered the role in HIMYM, portraying one of the most influential openly-lesbian characters in the 1990s Willow Rosenburg from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Sticking with her comedy roots, Hannigan has appeared in the American Pie franchise as Michelle Flaherty, before moving to the Disney channel with roles in Sofia the First and the live-action Kim Possible movie.

She is due to appear in the Disney+ Original Flora & Ulysses in 2021.

Neil Patrick Harris – Barney Stinson

The corporate womaniser could not be further from the real-life character that is Neil Patrick Harris.

Immediately after the show closed, Harris was the first openly-gay man to host the Academy Awards, doing so in 2015.

Since appearing on HIMYM, Harris has moved from Netflix series, to big screen, to live performance, with notable stand-outs being the main antagonist Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events, Desi Collings in Gone Girl and Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway.

Harris currently lives with his husband, famous chef David Burtka, and their two children, Harper and Gideon, in Harlem, New York, where the two appeared in the documentary Dads, in 2019.

Harris is confirmed to appear in the next instalment of the Matrix franchise in December 2021.

Cobie Smulders – Robin Scherbatsky

The Canadian actress made the leap to the super-hero leagues, joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as S.H.I.E.L.D’s agent Maria Hill, the lieutenant to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.

Smulders also starred in Netflix’s adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events as the recurring “mother,” before going on to star in the Netflix original Friends from College, until 2019.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Smulders released a parody version of HIMYM song “Let’s Go To The Mall”, entitled “Let’s All Stay At Home” in an effort to encourage people to abide by the lockdown measures.

Jason Segel – Marshall Eriksen

Segel had started writing young adult novels by the time HIMYM was coming to a close and in the years since, he has released the young adult series Nightmares! alongside Kirsten Miller, making the New York Times best seller list.

Segel has also worked on the drama series The End of the Tour, earning him a nomination for Best Male Lead at the Independent Spirit Award.

In 2020, Segel starred in “Our Friend”, an adaptation based on Matthew Teague’s 2015 essay “The Friend.”

Josh Radnor – Ted Mosby

The main character of How I Met Your Mother, Radnor focused on his band, Radnor and Lee, after the show ended.

Along with Australian musician Ben Lee, Josh Radnor released their debut album in 2017.

In 2020, Spin magazine announced their second album, Golden State, with Radnor releasing his first debut solo EP last month to Rolling Stone magazine.
