How I Met Your Father, a spin-off from How I Met Your Mother, has been announced by Hulu but what do we know about the show’s release date, cast, and plot?
How I Met Your Mother is one of the best-loved US sitcoms of the last 20 years and it remained popular from its release in 2005 until the bittersweet ending of season 9 in 2014.
Now in 2021, however, fans look set to return to the world of HIMYM as a new spin-off series, How I Met Your Father, has just been announced.
The series has been picked up by Hulu but just what do we know about How I Met Your Father, its release date, cast and potential plot?
The new spin-off comes after HIMYM’s original network, CBS, passed on another spin-off, How I Met Your Dad, which was never picked up for a series owing to rumoured creative differences that arose over its pilot episode.
The release date for How I Met Your Father has not been announced at the time of writing.
However, given the fact that the series is set in 2021, it does offer hope that it will release later this year or in early 2022.
With How I Met Your Father being set in 2021, fans will no doubt be hoping that some of the original cast members may reappear.
If that is the case, Ted Mosby could well appear alongside Cristin Milioti’s Tracy McConnell, the mother, as her character was still alive by 2021, eventually passing away in 2024, six years before Old Ted starts telling his kids the story.
The only cast member to be announced for How I Met Your Father so far is Hilary Duff who will be taking on the lead role as Sophie and will also help produce the series.
Like Ted Mosby before her, Sophie will recount the tale of how she met her son’s father.
Hilary Duff is best known for her role on the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire and has also appeared in Cheaper by the Dozen, Gossip Girl, A Cinderella Story and has most recently been appearing on Younger which has moved to Paramount+ for its seventh season.
