Here are 10 photos that even the biggest Jen fans might not have seen of the star before her Friends days.
When Jennifer Aniston was 12 years old, she was sent to her room by her dad for “not being interesting enough.” Jen is now so famous, it’s almost impossible to find photos of her that aren’t either related to Friends, rom-com movies, or that “Brangelina love triangle.” In 1994, the all-American girl next door hit our screens with a bang. Rachel Green became the biggest face on TV – overnight, and the rest is history.
10.IT ALL STARTED WITH THIS GUY (FROM HARRY POTTER)
As all good stories start, long before Rachel was all loved-up with Ross Geller from Friends– although, technically within the time frame of his “pining for her,” Jennifer Aniston was a clean slate. The household name that would make her the biggest face on TV hadn’t even been invented. Despite playing a teenager, this pic is actually from Jen’s 1993 movie, Leprechaun. Yes, just one year before the Friends pilot aired. Amazingly, Jen’s co-star here was none other than Warwick Davis (who later shot to fame in the Harry Potter franchise).
9.HOLLYWOOD THOUGHT JEN WAS TOO BIG
The Hollywood casting couch is no pumpkin patch. The pressure for actresses to be size zero is starting to lift, but it was written in stone back in the ’90s. Two years into Friends, Rolling Stone interviewed Jen on becoming the most famous face on TV. What they expected, was a glamorous story about Jen just “falling” into the industry and every casting agent saying “yes.” Not at all what happened.
8.WAIT, ISN’T THAT AMY FROM THE BIG BANG THEORY?
Talk about a small universe. Friends and The Big Bang Theory fans literally lost their minds when BBT’s, Mayim Bialik, shared this Instagram pic in 2015. This wasn’t some famous sitcom star guest-starring on another show. This was a 1994-2004 show that had a good three-year gap before the other one even started. Friends ended in 2004. While BBT started in 2007, Mayim’s character, Amy Farrah Fowler, didn’t appear for a while.
7.LOOKING ADORABLE AS A BRUNETTE
In many ways, it was Jen’s refusal to “diva out” that made her the superstar that she is. The minute some of these actors get the slightest whiff of fame, their egos just blow up out of proportion. Looking just as real here in 1993 as she does in 2018, it’s hard to believe that this 24-year-old would go on to marry Brad Pitt.
6.ROCKING AN ’80s LOOK
Wait, is it us, or could that look totally have passed for a Baywatch audition? Well, if you’re wondering, it’s from Jen’s 1986 TV adaptation of the movie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. If there’s anything that made Rachel so sensational on Friends, it was her temper. Just watching her fly into a giant screaming fit over the smallest things was what made Rachel so relatable, although, the opinion is still split over her biggest beef– whether or not those two really were “on a break.” Of course, when someone is both short-tempered and plucky, you get your perfect sitcom character.
5.THIS REMINDS OF US ROSS AND RACHEL
This guy kind of looks like a high school Ross, right? It’s slightly unnerving to think that the throwback episodes in Friends were set to around this time– Jen playing an ’80s teen. We’re back to 1993 here, though. Amazingly, just one year before Jen morphed into Rachel Green. Friends was pretty much the first sit-com to do full-on throwbacks as recurring gags, but whoever’s decision it was….good one. If you thought the “pilot Rachel” was spoiled, that was nothing compared to the teen Rachel.
There’s no way of putting a precise age on someone when they’ve got an entire pan of spaghetti on their head. Enjoying her own “spaghetti monster” moment, Jen was likely in one of her four pre-Friends TV shows here.
3.THE MILLION DOLLAR SMILE WAS ALWAYS THERE
The producers over at Molloy may not be as rich as the trio running Friends, but they did have one thing in common. They knew how to spot a million dollar smile. For all the screaming and yelling Rachel did: “It’s not that common! It doesn’t happen to every guy! And it IS A BIG DEAL!”– and the rest, it was Rachel’s smile that melted us in the end. It that ran from that rain-soaked girl in a wedding dress in the pilot, right through to the last episode.
2.ISN’T THAT GUY PHOEBE’S BOYFRIEND?
Seriously, when we said the circle was small, we meant it. We dug deep to find this pic of Jen with– yes, Hank Azaria. This guy is huge on so many levels, we don’t even know where to start. You’d think that choosing to voice most of the characters on The Simpsons would keep you away from the camera. Hank Azaria is a jack of all trades, though. With an IMDB page longer than your arm, this guy is best summed up as being in everything from Spider-Man to his latest Brockmire series.
1.THAT TIME WITH SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS
There’s always that slightly creepy guy, right? Rachel had to endure ten whole seasons of the loveable (but ever so slightly creepy) Gunther on Friends. Things were no different during Jen’s brief stint on The Edge in 1992. A lot less “creepy” in real life, this is Tom Kenny– none other than the voice behind SpongeBob Squarepants. Tom has voiced the Ice King in Adventure Time, not to mention every video game out there. Jen was in good company here, although she was probably far too young to realize it.
