How I Met Your Mother: Robin’s 5 Best Traits

Robin may be the (supposed) love of Ted’s life, and it’s easy to see why… but she’s far from perfect on How I Met Your Mother.

Best: Has Boundaries…

While most of the gang struggles with boundaries, especially in relationships, Robin actually has a pretty healthy approach, most of the time. She is rightfully freaked out, rather than pleased, when Ted tells her he loves her on the first date. When she’s dating Don, and recognizes that her past relationships with Ted and Barney may get in the way of that, she takes a step back from the group to put herself first. It’s refreshing to see, especially in a sitcom.

Best: Passionate About Her Work

She may put up with some pretty terrible jobs to start with, hosting ‘morning’ shows so early they are watched largely by drunk people who haven’t gone to bed yet, or reporting on puff pieces that bore her. But eventually, she ends up at World Wide News – and seeing her drive to get there is incredible.

Best: Independent

Robin is definitely unafraid to be alone, and when most sitcom characters are searching for love at all costs, it’s a nice change. She goes away to Argentina on her own to help get over a breakup.

Best: Great Sense Of Humor

Robin has her insecurities, like anyone, but for the most part, she is unselfconscious and just wants to have fun. She has an amazing sense of humor and a sense of adventure, and is always joking around. She has inside jokes with most of the group, and has some of the best one liners and burns along the way, too. It’s a comedy, after all, and Robin is absolutely hilarious.

Best: Self-Assured

Robin is not the kind of woman who is unsure of herself, or who needs anyone to take care of her. This is even the central theme of one entire episode, where Ted ends up dating a colleague of hers who acts like a little girl – Robin finds it annoying, but Ted thinks it’s charming, and nice to be needed. Barney sums it up beautifully for Robin, though, when she asks if he felt ‘needed’ when they were dating. He tells her ‘You’re the least needy woman I’ve ever met. That’s awesome! No guy’s gonna say “Who’s your daddy?” to Robin Scherbatsky; you’re your own daddy. And mommy. And… weird, survivalist uncle’.
